1. The Secret to Your Most Attractive Look

You sit down across from the person you met online for your first face-to-face date. You are thrilled to finally be meeting in person, but nervous about making a good first impression. You want to appear excited yet relaxed to make your date comfortable. Sure, you have been communicating online, and probably on the phone, but first impressions are made in person, quickly — and they're based in large part on facial expressions.
So here is the question: How can you put your best face forward the very first time you lock eyes?
Think this through in advance, because according to research, you will be sized up in a matter of milliseconds. Over and Cook, in a piece entitled “Where do spontaneous first impressions of faces come from?” (2018), note that adults make trait judgments after viewing faces for only 100 milliseconds.[i] Some of the traits we spontaneously attribute to strangers, based solely on their faces, include intelligence, honesty, dominance, competence, trustworthiness, and likability. And of course, our perception influences our behavior.
No pressure, right? But preparation and relaxation will allow you to have a great first meetup that (if you remain interested yourself) should lead to a second. First, greet your date with a natural, authentic, smile — with your entire face, including your eyes. This conveys authenticity, and then, as time goes on, actively match your expression with your attention.
    Face Time
Great first impressions involve positive emotion. Research demonstrates that smiling prompts a variety of positive behaviors. Yet for maximum impact, a smile must be authentic. To demonstrate the concrete benefits of a genuine smile, a study by Gujisic et al., entitled “Not all smiles are created equal” (2014), showed that smiles from serving staffers which are genuine and authentic prompt customers to tip more.[ii] And proving that service with a smile is not itself sufficient, they demonstrated that customers can distinguish between an authentic smile and a paste-on grin. How? Through the smile's warmth and duration
Gujisic et al. note that while authentic smiles are warm, inauthentic smiles are perceived as cool, and forced. Perhaps even more interesting, they note that genuine smiles are longer in both onset and offset, while inauthentic smiles appear and disappear quickly.
What does this mean for you? That a great way to face a first date is with a smile. Yet because great beginnings often prompt great expectations, after you and your date exchange an authentic, early smiling exchange of preliminary pleasantries, what´s next? Your ability to maintain an appropriate affect depends on your ability to engage in active listening. But here is the caveat: You can't use active listening unless you are paying attention.
Match Your Expression to the Communication
One of the most common mistakes trial attorneys make in the courtroom is failing to listen to witnesses' answers. They shuffle papers, scroll on their computer, or mentally formulate their next question instead of focusing on the potentially dynamite testimony coming from the witness stand. This type of multitasking causes the loss of great evidence. Yet that is not all they lose: Unfocused advocates lose credibility with their witness, judge, client, and jury, because distraction signals disinterest.
The same dynamics are in play on a date. Mental or physical multitasking is a missed opportunity to make a great first impression. Looking at the menu (just check it out online before you arrive), continual fumbling with your electronic device (just keep it in your purse or your pocket), or even thinking about what question you want to ask next instead of listening to what your date is actually saying can create distance by conveying indifference.
And you will not be able to hide your lack of focus; your expression will give you away. You cannot pretend to be interested in what someone is saying if you have no idea what they are talking about because you are not paying attention. Your face will betray you.
    Seeing Is Believing
Authenticity is believable and memorable. Over the course of a meal, you have an opportunity to establish a connection through sustained attention and positive expression. Regardless of the ultimate outcome of your new relationship, whether romantic or platonic, displaying genuine positive expression will allow you to make a great first impression, assuring that new acquaintances will like what they see.  Wendy L. 3. "Keep a hand cream in your handbag to moisturise hands on-the-go, especially in winter! Hands can get particularly dry after washing so it’s important to moisturise them regularly."

"Don’t be afraid to try something new. A new lipstick colour, a new eye look. Whatever it is that you have said to yourself “I don’t want to try that because I don’t think it will suit me”, or “I don’t think I would be able to do that”, just give it a try. On a day when you have some time to yourself, have an experiment and you may be surprised! If it’s down to technique, just practice! Step out of your comfort zone and you may find a new string of confidence."
"Make a New Years resolution to give yourself a weekly intensive treatment hair masque. Just as skin is depleted of moisture over the winter months, so too is hair - central heating will strip hair of moisture. A weekly hair treatment will restore shine - and hair that is well conditioned will hold onto colour for longer too. Try my Sacred Locks Intensive Treatment Masque left on overnight, the natural silicone-free formulation will not leave hair feeling sticky or weighed down, so perfect to rinse off the following morning and dry as normal. Avoid messy sheets by wrapping hair in a towel or using a disposable shower cap found in most hotel bathrooms."
"Put down those tweezers! Bold, natural brows are ‘in’, so try to resist the temptation of plucking and perhaps try a Brow Boost serum to encourage hair growth. Always use a spoolie to brush eyebrows and keep them looking neat. Blend products well – harsh pencil lines are super unflattering!"
"File nails with a natural mineral file to minimise damage, and only file in one direction to avoid splitting. Use a nourishing, moisturising Nail Rescue Oil and massage cuticles weekly. Avoid chewing/biting at all costs!"

  4. Is Your Diet Hurting Your Gut & Causing Weight Gain?

If you have a long-standing weight problem, you’ve almost certainly experienced this: The more you diet, the harder it is to lose weight. For years scientists attributed this to a change in metabolism but had no real explanation for the mechanism. Now researchers at the Weitzman Institute in Israel have discovered a compelling explanation. Their research was done in mice, but it’s readily translated to humans and, most importantly, it points to a simple dietary treatment. The research deals with one of the most important topics in nutritional medicine today, the interaction between bacteria in your gut (the gut microbiome) and phytonutrients called flavonoids found in the food you eat.
Flavonoids are polyphenols, chemicals naturally produced by plants. There are over 400 flavonoids in the human diet, and the average Western diet supplies about 1,000 milligrams a day. Asian diets supply four to five times that amount, mostly from teas and spices. Best known for their anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects, flavonoids can influence almost every system in your body. High intake of flavonoids in the diet has been associated with decreased risk of many chronic diseases and allergies.

The flavonoid-gut bacteria connection you should know about.
Dietary flavonoids have a complex relationship with gut bacteria. Bacteria can liberate flavonoids from the food you eat, increasing their absorption, or they may destroy those flavonoids. Flavonoids, for their part, shape the distribution of gut bacteria; they alter the gut microbiome, increasing its internal diversity, which is generally considered a good thing.
The scientists at the Weitzman Institute did not start out looking at flavonoids. They wanted to study the impact of yo-yo dieting on the gut microbiome. There are two ways to study the microbiome, and these scientists looked at the impact of yo-yo dieting in both ways. The first approach answers the question, "Who’s there?" (What bacterial species are present?) There are about a thousand species found normally, and many more if strains and subspecies are studied. The second approach answers the question, "What do they do?" Different bacteria may affect your body in exactly the same way; conversely, different strains of the same species may have drastically different effects.

Yo-yo dieting and its effect on gut health.
To produce yo-yo dieting in mice, the Weitzman researchers first fed them a diet of standard laboratory chow. For mice, this is a vegetarian low-fat diet. Then they started loading the mice up with fat, which made them gain weight. Next, they returned them to standard lab chow with restricted calories, so that they lost weight, and then they kept repeating the cycle of weight gain and weight loss over and over.
What they found will be no surprise to dieters. Each time the overfed mice lost weight, it became easier for them to regain it and harder for them to lose it again. Each cycle of weight loss and weight gain increased this effect. When they studied the gut microbes of the dieting mice, they found an explanation. On the high-fat diet, the mice experienced a loss of diversity among their gut bacteria. When they lost the weight, diversity increased but never returned to where it had been before the weight gain. With each episode of weight gain, the disturbance in gut microbes was greater, and each subsequent round of weight loss was less effective at restoring a normal balance to the gut microbiome. This part of the research was answering the question, "Who’s there?"

The critical effect of dieting became obvious with the answer to the second question, "What do they do?" That finding is a real breakthrough in understanding how disturbed gut bacteria cause weight gain. The altered gut bacteria became more efficient at destroying flavonoids. The more cycles of weight gain and loss the mice experienced, the greater the capacity of their gut microbes to destroy flavonoids, so flavonoid levels in the blood of these mice dropped dramatically over time.

Drawing connections between flavonoids, bacteria, and weight management.

Here’s what’s remarkable about this finding: If you feed bacteria a particular nutrient, they’re likely to increase their ability to metabolize that nutrient. But the high-fat weight-gain diet is actually much lower in flavonoids than standard lab chow. So the increased ability of these bacteria to destroy flavonoids was not simply the result of feeding the mice more flavonoids. It paradoxically occurred when they were consuming fewer flavonoids, indicating that this change reflects a deep-seated alteration in the function of the gut microbiome—not just a reversible effect induced by a short-term feeding practice.
So what's the solution? There were two specific flavonoids that were especially depleted after rounds of yo-yo dieting: apigenin and naringenin. Each of these has profound effects in humans. Apigenin has anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects and alters the metabolism of fat cells. Naringenin is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects and plays a profound role in detoxification. The Weitzman researchers noted that both flavonoids increase metabolic rate and suppress appetite. When they fed supplements of apigenin and naringenin, their obese yo-yo dieting mice began to lose weight like normal mice. Feeding these flavonoids overcame the
    effects of yo-yo dieting.
The good news about apigenin is that it’s concentrated in parsley and celery leaves. Naringenin is a citrus bioflavonoid, most concentrated in grapefruit. You don’t need supplements to duplicate the Weitzman effect. You only need the right foods. Parsley, grapefruit juice and celery (include the leaves) make a tangy and refreshing drink.  Leo Galland M.D.

  5. Dry Brushing for Better Skin, Muscle Tone and Boosting Circulation

Dry brushing is a simple detoxification process for your body. It stimulates a number of organs through a gently massage. It also helps the lymphatic system, eliminates dead skin coatings, strengthens the immune system, can eliminate cellulite, stimulates the hormones, and can help tighten skin through better circulation. Best of all, it’s cheap and easy.

Dry skin brushing is one of the most simple and effective ways to pamper your skin and improve your health. Don’t believe me? Let’s talk skin for a moment.
Skin gets lots of attention from the beauty industry. It seems people are always trying to get their skin look baby soft, smooth, and just the right color. Creams, lotions, potions and whatnot are sold at ridiculous prices in every mall with the lack-luster promise of “more beautiful skin.”

    But did you know that:
    • The skin is the largest organ of the body AND one of the most important organs for detoxification?
    • In fact, the skin is responsible for eliminating one quarter of the of the body’s waste? We’re talking over a pound of waste products each day for the average adult (thank you, sweat glands!).
    • The skin also receives one third of the body’s circulated blood, too. Pretty cool.
The skin is actually the last organ to receive nutrients from the body, but it is the first to show signs of imbalances.

But what does this have to do with dry skin brushing?

Dry skin brushing helps your skin do its job even better. And not just because it brushes away dead skin cells (which it does). Your body has several organs, glands, and systems that help detox and clean the body. One of the cool benefits of dry skin brushing is that those organs get a boost, too.

    Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing

    • Dry skin brushing helps exfoliate and brush away dead skin cells. This alone is worth the few minutes it takes. I notice immediately that my skin feels smoother and brighter.
    • Because dry skin brushing increases blood flow and improves circulation, one of the benefits of brushing is tighter, firmer skin. No toxic creams necessary.
    • Increased circulation can also improve the appearance of cellulite.
    • Increase circulation also encourages your body to discharge of metabolic waste. It’s a power boost to your lymphatic system which can enhance your immune system. Everything is connected. The benefit of dry skin brushing is a more efficient working body. Yes.
    • Dry skin brushing can improve muscle tone, help distribute fat deposits more evenly, help with pregnancy swelling, and help prevent varicose veins.
    • Skin brushing stimulates the hormone and oil glands. Keep in mind that as the largest organ of the body the skin has a lot of work to do. Dry skin brushing can help toxins more easily escape keeping you in tip top shape.
    • Dry skin brushing also stimulates the nerve endings in the skin. I find that brushing each morning is really rejuvenating.
    • Dry skin brushing can help your skin “breathe” easier by eliminating clogged pores.
Best of all? It’s easy, all natural, and safe.

    How to: Dry Skin Brushing

While fairly simple, there is a technique you want to follow. Since dry skin brushing is such a powerful aid for your lymphatic system, you want to help your lymph as much as possible. Also, it’s recommended that you try daily skin brushing for three months to really see the full benefits.

    Before you start:

    1. Get a good brush (or two)
Mostly you want to find a brush that has all natural bristles and a long handle to get to the back. Some brushes have detachable handles so that you can more easily brush your feet/legs, but be sure that the handle won’t easily fall off or else it’s kind of useless. I don’t have a problem with the handle so I got one that stays put.

Also, don’t use this brush on your face. You’ll want a facial brush for that… which can also be really great.
    2. Always brush on dry skin (before your shower is best.)
There is a reason why this is called dry skin brushing. Don’t brush on wet skin or with a wet brush as it can be too abrasive and your pores are more open (meaning you could clog your pores with all that stuff you’re trying to brush off). The best time to dry brush is before you shower. Daily is recommended.

    Dry Skin Brushing Technique

    1. Brush from the bottom up to support the pathway of your lymph.
    2. Using long, sweeping strokes start at the bottom of your feet and always brush up toward the heart. Brush the feet, up the legs, and then the hands up toward your shoulders. Brush the torso in an upward direction back toward your heart. Brush your stomach in a counter-clockwise motion. Brush downward on the neck (toward the collar bones).
Do not stroke away from your heart as this can put extra pressure on the valves within the veins and lymph vessels. Keep your strokes in a single direction.
    3. Be sensitive to your body. Use light pressure where the skin is thinner and more pressure on tough places (such as the soles of your feet). Avoid sensitive areas, rashes, bruises, cuts, etc.

    4. Dry skin brushing can be done while pregnant or nursing, although a lighter stroke may be necessary. Again, listen to your body. If something doesn’t seem right: stop. I personally found that dry skin brushing benefited my pregnancy and helped my skin and circulation a lot.
    5. Rinse off (shower as you normally would) and pat dry.

    Taking care of your brush

    • Shake or tap your brush over a trash can to get rid of any dead skin.
    • Don’t share your brush with other people. Everyone gets their own.
    • Keep your brush in a dry place, away from moisture.
    • Wash your brush once a week with a mild soap (I love castile) and water. Let it dry in a sunny area.

  6. 5 of the best tips for exfoliation at home

Professional exfoliation in the spa is an awesome way to zero in on your skin concerns, but regular exfoliation at home is an absolute must for great skin. Maintaining a regular exfoliation schedule will lead to stronger, healthier skin and can tackle many common concerns, but there are some tricks to exfoliation. Keep reading to see our five best tips for exfoliation at home.

    Why you need to exfoliate

Your skin is constantly shedding skin cells. When this happens, smoother skin cells push their way up to the skin’s surface. However, the older you get, the slower your cells turnover and this leads to clogged pores, rough skin texture, more pronounced wrinkles, dullness and more.
When you exfoliate skin with a physical exfoliating face scrub (like Pumice Peel or Measured Micrograins+), these dead cells are immediately sloughed away. Circulation is improved and nerve endings are exercised. When you use a chemical exfoliant (like Quick Refiner or Quick Refiner for Eyes) these leave-on AHA blends melt away the glue that holds dead skin cells together.

    1) Know your type
There are two main types of exfoliation and it’s important to know which works best for your skin type and specific skin concerns. A professional esthetician will be able to help you decide which form of exfoliation is best for your skin, but exfoliation at home can take some trial and error.

    2) Don’t be too aggressive
Exfoliation is amazing for your skin, but you can definitely have too much of a good thing. Over exfoliated skin can become red or irritated. To avoid over exfoliating skin, only exfoliate 1-3 times per week. If you have resistive skin, you can use certain exfoliators daily.
Be careful with your pressure too – scrubbing too vigorously can cause breakouts, hyperpigmentation and more. Gently massage your physical exfoliators into your skin using circular motion and never press too hard.

    3) Use facial brushes the right way
Exfoliating facial brushes can be a great way to get gentle daily exfoliation without over exfoliating the skin, but only if used correctly. Just like other forms of exfoliation, using gentle pressure is key to preventing injury to the skin. It’s also imperative to start with makeup-free skin so you don’t push makeup and grime deep into pores. Learn the right way to use your facial brush with tthis quick how to guide.

    4) A dry brush is your best friend
If there’s one takeaway from this article, it’s that exfoliating your face is important – but what about your body? You can’t neglect your skin neck-to-toes and expect to have smooth, glowing skin. Body exfoliation is necessary for many of the same reasons exfoliating your face is: preventing dry, dead skin from building up (hello dry, cracked elbows), speeding up cell turnover, tackling hyperpigmentation and more.
Our favorite tip for body exfoliation is to use a dry brush. This technique has been a supermodel secret for years and is hands down the easiest way to revitalize your skin. Just see our quick video below:

    5) Don’t forget your eyes
Under eyes, we mean. Between squinting, tugging, sun damage and more, there’s no limit to the number of things that age the delicate skin under your eyes. Exfoliating your under eye area can help tackle crows feet, fine lines, dark circles and more.
However, you should never use your regular facial exfoliators on your under eye area – the skin there is too delicate. Always use a gentle formula specifically designed for under eyes.

  8. Best Herbs For Flushing Belly Fat, Removing Toxins And A Very Fast Metabolism!

One of the most difficult things is lose some weight because it requires that you completely change your entire lifestyle.  However, this isn’t something which is unreachable for you because even thousands of people start their weight loss journey every month. Almost 85% of people won’t meet their goals when they work towards losing their weight. It is very important to explore all of your options because of this. There are different plants and herbs which may help us to shed the pounds and reclaim our health. It is important that we know which ones are really efficient so that we don’t waste time experimenting.

The Most Effective Plants and Herbs for Weight Loss
Once you choose to lose weight and improve your health, you likely think about some natural ways to make your journey a little bit easier. This is where we start using herbs because there are many we can use which have effects similar to stimulating the metabolism and help reducing the appetite. When you combine an effective weight loss plant or herb with regular exercise and a healthy diet, your chances of success become much higher.
    1. Gurmar Leaves
This herb has a long history of use in treating obesity in Ayurvedic medicine. It acts as a diuretic to flush out excess of water and toxins and also removes toxins with its astringent effects. These leaves work as a digestive stimulant and are able to temporarily block your ability to taste sweets and help you combat your sweet tooth.
    1. Ginseng
People know ginseng as it is one of the most commonly used herbs throughout the world. While it is most popular for its memory-enhancing effects, it can also be beneficial when you’re trying to lose weight. It is a simulant and a thermogenic and both effects boost your metabolism and give you the energy you need to exercise.
    1. Oregano
Oregano is an antioxidant and it helps you keep your digestive system healthy and working as it should. It also increases the serotonin levels and helps you flush excess weight out of the body. All of these properties promote weight loss and prevent issues like bloating and constipation. The increased levels of serotonin will improve your mood, which reduces the risk of emotional eating. Increasing serotonin may also be beneficial in reducing your complete appetite.
    1. Sage
This is a very popular cooking herb because it has its effects in many different dishes. Sage is effective in decreasing the blood sugar levels, decreasing the blood pressure and reducing anxiety. Because all of these issues can lead to gaining weight, sage not only promotes weight loss, but it also promotes good overall health. It has stress-busting effects that will help you keep your cortisol levels normal. High cortisol levels lead to weight gain – mostly around the abdominal area – so it’s important to keep this hormone checked so you can have a healthy weight.

    5.  Spearmint
A research shows that spearmint is very efficient in reducing body fat. It releases the excess amounts of the hormone estrogen that the body stores. When your body stores this hormone, it holds on to more fat and you gain weight. Balancing your estrogen levels with a kind of herb like spearmint can help you regulate your body so that it doesn’t hold on to extra fat.

    6.  Guggul
This isn’t a very familiar herb because of its age. However, there are some modern studies which support the claims that this herb is beneficial in improving the health of your thyroid gland and ensuring you that your metabolism is functioning at an optimal rate. It does this with the help of the stimulant effects it possesses, so it’s ideal for people who need a metabolism boost, but aren’t able to tolerate stimulants.
    1. Milk thistle
This plant is becoming more popular in recent years for its cleansing effects. It is particularly useful for cleansing and detoxifying the liver so that this organ can function at an optimal level. When your liver doesn’t have excessive toxins, it can focus on keeping your metabolism active so that you can burn calories and lose weight.
    1. Dandelion Root
Most often, dandelion is seen as the pesky weed that muddles our lawns, but it is actually a very effective cleanser, helping to flush toxins and excess waste out of your body. It helps you to promote weight loss because it eliminates toxins, regulates the blood sugar, reduces inflammation and alkalizes the body. All parts of this plant are edible and produce these beneficial effects.
    1. Yerba Mate
This is a very popular stimulating herb and many people replace their morning coffee with it. Its stimulant effect will give you energy and increase your metabolism. It is full of different antioxidants, minerals, vitamins and amino acids, so in addition to promoting weight loss, it can also help you get the essential nutrients your body needs each day.
    1. Coleus Forskohlii
This plant is very popular in Ayurvedic medicine and its use goes back to ancient times. The forskolin component is effective in promoting weight loss by boosting your metabolism and stimulating thyroid function. Men have the most benefits from this plant because it also increases testosterone which is beneficial for men trying to lose weight.
    1. Peppermint
It is very popular for alleviating nausea and other minor digestive problems, but it can also support weight loss. It helps regulate your digestive system and flush out excess water and waste. It can also reduce your stress levels to prevent emotional eating and it helps suppress your appetite.
    Spearmint

  10. Face Exercises to Reduce Jowls and Firm Face

One of the signs of an aging face is the appearance of small pouches of flesh along the jawline that are known as jowls. As the cheek muscles lose strength and are drawn downward, jowls develop and give the jaw an undefined loose appearance. A cosmetic surgeon can perform jowl liposuction or a face lift, which will improve the appearance of these unattractive saggy pockets, or you can practice facial exercise routines to lift the face muscles and improve the appearance of jowls.

    Teeth Clincher

The Teeth Clincher exercise forms part of the facial exercise training program named "Flex Effect" produced by Deborah Crowley. Crowley sanctions performing the exercise at least five times per week to alleviate the appearance of jowls. Place the "apples" of your palms on the upper part of your jaw, in front of your ears, and clench your back teeth to contract the muscle. You will feel the muscle moving beneath your palms. Increase the resistance by pressing your palms more firmly against your face, and hold for a count of six. Repeat 10 times.

    Cheek Lift

"Ageless If You Dare" creator Louise Annette claims that routinely exercising the cheek muscles will not only lift the cheeks, but will also help eliminate sagging jowls. Annette claims eliminating jowls without working on the cheek muscles will not have lasting results as sagging jowls are simply a symptom of weakened cheek muscles. Annette endorses several exercises to lift the cheeks, which she recommends should be performed at least twice a week for optimal results. In order to perform the cheek lift, place the three middle fingers of each hand vertically alongside the length of your nose and position your thumb approximately an inch away, toward your ear. Grab a chunk of cheek flesh, grasping as much flesh as possible and pinch, while simultaneously using the cheek muscle to lift the cheeks directly up toward the center of the eye. Hold the pose while counting to five, or repeat the phrase "delighted to see you" while repeating the exercise 20 times.

    Happy Smile

Louise Annette also describes how performing an exercise she calls "Happy Smile" can help to promote fuller cheeks, which will in turn lift the face and improve the appearance of jowls. Place your three middle fingers on top of your cheekbones and your thumbs where dimples are usually found. Your fingers should be pressing the flesh away from your eye sockets. Open your mouth and move the corners of your mouth toward your ears as if you were smiling widely. Repeat 20 times, holding the pose while repeating the phrase "it's wonderful to feel happy."
